Training Rides

While Coburg does not hold any regular training rides, here are some of the more popular bunch rides around Melbourne:

Sunday 8am Ride (Coburg Clubrooms)

Every Sunday morning there will be a ride starting at 8 am at the Coburg CC clubhouse. Riders from other clubs are welcome and encouraged. We may have a few riders who wish to do shorter rides so anybody who is just starting in the sport and is interested, please feel free to contact Frank on 0410 953 746 or email coburg@coburgcycling.com.au

The current ride heads out and up to King Lake through Diamond Creek & Hurstbridge and is approx 110km's. The Coburg CC clubhouse will be open between 7-7:30 on Sundays and there is a fridge that we can store any refreshemnts/food in that you may want to have upon return. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Sunday 7:30am Ride (Bundoora Hotel, Plenty Rd, Bundoora)

Usually a casual ride out to Whittelsea, and on to Humevale, take the old road up to the top of Kinglake West. Some riders take off up the climb, but everyone regroups at the summit. Some riders continue on over the top through Kinglake and back through Hurstbridge, Greensborough, whilst the majority take the highway back down to Whittelsea then on to Bundoora, for about an 80km ride.

Thursday 6:30pm Tour of the Suburbs (SBR, Punt Rd, St Kilda)

Starting at 6:30pm from SBR on Punt Rd, St Kilda, this ride heads on to Yarra boulevard, where more riders congregate  under Studley Park Rd around 6:50pm to jump on when the bunch comes past.  The bunch winds its way towards Doncaster, before looping round to the finish in Fairfield at around 8:30.
This ride is a perfect road race training because it incorporates 4 short and sharp climbs including the infamous 'Col de Burgundy Street' in Heidelburg, with the bunch regrouping after each effort.

Tues  - Fri 6:00am Brumbies Ride (Hampton St, Hampton, near Brumbies)

Ride onto Beach Road almost to Mordialloc and back to Brumby's Bakery in Hampton Street via Como Parade, Balcombe Road and Beach Road. Tuesday and Thursday are faster days.

Sunday 7:30 am Bike Life Hill Ride (Tower Hotel, Burwood Rd, Hawthorn)

Heads down Canterbury Rd to The Basin, most riders take off up the 1 in 20 climb and the bunch regroups at the top before returning.
Distance about 70km from Hawthorn to Sassafras return (includes the 7km 1 in 20 hill climb).
