Started Racing:

1946 when he was 14.  Road and Track, but mainly a trackie with the amateurs.  Road racing was at Fawkner cemetary and track was on the dirt track at Coburg Richards Reserve.

Raced on good quality road even though often dirt. Racing is more scientific these days and winning more important.

Epping Road, Sydney Road, were also used as race venues no worries about permits just rock up and race. 5 mile races up Sydney road and return. Coburg would have 80 riders at a race.

Doug now helps out at Blackburn and is a State Commissaire and transport controller.
