628) or Jim Fawcett took up cycling in his early 30s after a successful football career in the VFA with Preston, which included winning a club best and fairest, and an equally successful district cricket career. During his time in cycling, Jim was a huge contributor at both the Preston and Coburg Cycling Clubs and was instrumental in getting criterium racing going on a Saturday afternoons at Essendon Airport. In 1985 Jim won the Melbourne-to-Yarrawonga. The win typified the man - he rode off a middle mark, never missing a turn and spent the final 30km with one rider sitting on his wheel, unwilling to work. He left behind a wife, two teenage sons and three young daughters. He was the reason I took up cycling and is one of the best human beings I've ever met. Matthew Keenan April 10th 2006 Tour of the Southern Grampians The Tour of the Southern Grampians was held over the weekend, and again was a huge success. Results, reports and photos will be available shortly at the Coleraine Tour website.
Well done once again to Tour Organiser and Coburg Treasurer Paul Logan, without whose endless hours of time and effort the Tour would not be such a success. Thanks to all members of the Coburg Committee for their assistance, and everyone else who helped out in the lead up to the race and on the day. April 4th 2006
